Health insurance Reform

Many advocates are pushing for a mandate on insurance reform that would make insurance affordable for everyone including those who are considered uninsurable. More than 40 million Americans are currently uninsured. The primary goal is to prevent preexisting conditions from prohibiting Americans from obtaining needed coverage as well as keeping the cost down for low income families. Some major health carriers have agreed to supporting the mandate should it occur, however many believe that our new president may find much opposition within the senate. Stay tuned

HSA's Good Option when Considering Health Plan's

I saw on the news where a consumer dropped her health insurance because of the high cost, while it can be expensive I see this as a huge mistake. In this ever changing market and rising healh care cost many are familiar with flexible spending programs and reimbusment programs, Health Saving Accounts can be a very viable option  when you need health care this plan can give you a good value for their health care dollar. The plans usually have high deductibles but much lower premiums , as low as 1/2 to 1/3 of a lower deductible plan. HSA's allow the consumer to manage how they spend on there own health care. You will have to cover office visits and prescriptions for most plans however the deductible can be covered once per year for the whole indivivual or whole family. Definately worth a look. Medicare  Open Enrollment to begin November 15th

The fall open Medicare enrollment period runs from November 15th until December 31st for the senior market to make changes or add or drop programs. Those benificiaries seeking Medicare part D  (the prescription drug portion) can expect increased premiums and copays according to the Wall Street Journal. Many Medicare benificiaries should start the search early for the most affordable plan and should consider comparing to medicare advantage programs since many include prescription drug plans.

Several Carriers to offer the Uninsured Health Plans

In an effort to provide policies for the uninsured  the state has assembled aproximatly 6 carriers who will offer a program to cover all state residents ages 19 to 64 who have been uninsured for six months or more.  Premiums will start at about $150 monthly and will not cover treatments for some conditions, including cancer and mental illness (South Florida Sun-Sentinel, 10/16). Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida and UnitedHealthcare will offer policies statewide

You can go to the states new informative website and compare everything from health plans, medicare policies , drug plans and even symptoms research: floridahealthfinder.gov
